New Job!
I started a new job this week! I am no longer teaching nursery school. I have really had it with all the ignorant, insensitive, uneducated, lazy, sometimes nurotic, and cheap directors. (that almost basically covers it!) I absolutely loved being in the classroom, doing what I did, not to mention working with such great kids (as well as some really wonderful parents..) I also loved working with many of my co-workers, some of who I have remained friends with, and love and respect dearly. I loved that I got to be so creative and also have so much fun at the same time. I loved the repour I had with my kids. I sure as heck miss them! But the directors I've dealt with (like 90%) have been horrible to work for. (this excludes retired Audrey VanDuesen whom I think is still an educational Goddess, my student teacher mentors, and Moira from Northport Co-Op up the street..) These are incredible women who run an amazing program and if I could I'd be working for them in a heartbeat!
So, unless I get my BA in Elementary Art Education, (which I am seriously considering) or find an opportunity with an developmentally appropriate school: with decent & educated people to work for, I doubt I will go back into the classroom for quite some time.
What is my new job you ask? Well, if you know anything about me, you will know how much I love cats! So I am now working at an animal shelter in the cattery! I absoltely LOVE it! I am so incredibly happy to be there. I have found a tiny place in this vast world with amazing creatures that I truly love and deeply respect. It is a LOT of work but it is very-very rewarding. I now have close to 300 new fury friends. Yes, you read that right, close to 300! (and that doesn't even include the wonderfully dedicated cattery staff I work with;) It really is a cat Heaven, other than it is incredibly sad because all these wonderful little guys just need homes! (Please, seriously consider adopting from a shelter if you ever want a cat!!) So, until they find the homes they deserve, we love them and do what we can. Most all our cats also have free roam.. meaning they are literally everywhere and can come and go wherever thay want. It is a beautiful layout.. many different rooms with cat trees, and cubbies, and shelves, and warm blankets & pet beds.. They have plenty of food and water, and tons of cat-nip toys too :) So no matter where I am or what I am doing, I am surrounded by these beautiful whiskered faces. I even have a few that follow me around on my eronds lol.
So many stories: both happy & sad, so many adventures... it really is an amazing organization. I feel quite honored to be in their presence. I doubt I'll be going anywhere else for quite some time, if ever :)
I'll post some pics at some point soon! (for now, below is: Roseann (black) who I think is so elegant, and hangs out on the sink-counter by me every afternoon, and Tully whom is special needs & has a neurological problem with his hind quarters. Although he can walk, run and play, he has difficulty controlling his rear hip and legs. Yet he manages to jump on my lap every afternoon for a petting! I love him dearly already...
